Mamaygwessey

Mamaygwessey (ma ma gwes’s)

Traditional Plains Indian. The Mamaygwessey is a mythical creature of the Plains Indians. Although not easily seen, its most recognizable features are its large eyes, six fingers on each hand and six toes on its feet. This forest imp assumes the blame for canoes set adrift in the night, falling objects at a campsite, and other acts of unexplainable mischief. Sometimes, believe it or not, the Mamygwessey gets blamed for the foolishness of fellow campers! But, if he is blamed too much, he’ll soon be out for you!
